Now that my nephew’s birthday gift has been given I can show you what he got. This year he turned 4 and I decided to make him a quilt for his bed. I went with minions because honestly what 4 year old doesn’t like minions.
I wanted to turn this panel into a twin size quilt and was having a hard time. I didn’t want it to be border on border on border. So, I decided to surround the panel with patchwork. I did simple squares and tried my best to make it look random.
When it came time to quilt this quilt I decided to rent time from a local store on their long arm machine. I could have done a more simple design, but I wanted to practice my free motion swirls and try ruler work for the first time. I truly enjoyed quilting this quilt. The only disappointment was that I did not finish it in one rental time. This meant I had to unload the quilt and bring it back another day.
To finish it off I chose to bind with beautiful polka dots. They are so cute! I wanted to try out a feature on my new sewing machine. My awesome husband upgraded my sewing machine from a Singer Talent to an EverSewn Sparrow 30 for Christmas. This means that I now have an automatic thread cutter and can stitch letters!!!!! I chose to stitch my label onto the binding using my new machine. I loved how it turned out! (Except that I put 2017 instead of 2018 – I had to fix that)
At the end of the day I think this is an adorable quilt. It will be super soft with it’s flannel back and hope he enjoys it for years to come.
Hope you enjoyed this quilt. Let’s quilt to it!
